The sun peaks through the clouds to signal signs of summer. Before not too long, those of us with school-age children will have 10 weeks of kids at home 24/7. In no time at all, we’ll welcome backyard BBQs, iced coffees, and hikes. It’s magical.
With just 2 1/2 weeks until my oldest is home for the summer I’m doing my best to get a plan before he’s home. As I plan events and adventures for my children this summer, I’m choosing my own goals and adventures alongside them.
For the kids, we’ll pack in plenty of library dates, beach trips, pool time, morning hikes, and time at the movies. We’ll visit children’s museums, botanical gardens, and mix in a little Chick Fil A, because, um, life.
As the days pass, I think it is vital to stop and dream about what I want this season to look like not just for my children, but for me as well.
As I ask myself these questions, I offer them to you.
- For this summer season, what do I need to stop doing to make room for what I truly love and want to do?
- What is taking up space in my home that needs to go?
- Who am I sitting at the feet of? What woman of wisdom can I share a meal with?
- Is there a heaviness I need help with? Is it time to meet with a counselor?
- What books do I want to read that will stir me and challenge my thinking?
- Who do I want to sit at my table? What can I offer them?
- What will propel me forward into my dreams? What can I realistically do to make that happen this summer?
- What am I believing for in prayer? Who am I covering in prayer day in and day out?
- What trips, great or small, excite me for this summer?
- Who am I discipling this summer? How can I serve her well?
As we plan our lives, let’s not forget to plan ones we actually want to live. Ones we love, ones that we cherish.
