So many of us are built for far more than we may be doing in this season and that is O.K., but what is not O.K. is denying your longing to do more at some point in your life. I recently listened to a podcast about a woman who really struggled when her kids were little. She felt like her days were lovely and she ADORED her children but something was missing. She did her best to keep the blues away but struggled to do so. I’ve felt that rub as well and I know I’m not alone. I’ve talked to countless women who long to do something bigger despite the busy season of motherhood or school they find themselves in. It can even be that the current job you find yourself in no longer excites you in the way it used to and you know deep down in your belly that you are ready for something different. This particular woman discovered she was made to create and finds deep satisfaction in her work. I teared up as she shared about her business that has expanded over the years.
The truth is, every woman on the face of the earth is stronger than she thinks she is AND is built for rewarding work. I have found this to be true in my own life. With a five-month-old baby up all hours of the night, I launched this current blog, took down the sad and neglected wannabe blog that took up space on the internet the majority of my twenties, and took steps to seek a partnership with a traditional publisher. I had a four-year-old, a colicky baby, a full-time job, and had just recently bought a new house that needed all sorts of fixing. It was not the time to be dreaming about new ventures, but I would have been a dying star if I didn’t pursue them. I deeply believe each soul is built for more than he or she could possibly imagine and if I didn’t pursue these ideas then I would miss out on a beautiful life. The world would keep on spinning but I would not.
Honestly, I’m a better wife and mama when I first connect with the Lord and do what I believe I was uniquely created to do. I think the same thing could be said of you. When you are KILLING it at whatever it is you slay, there is a chance you feel most like yourself. Here me now, I do not mean to confuse contentment in Christ with pursuing your dreams. As we abide in Christ, he stirs us to act, dream, create and do.
So if you are a painter, bust out the brushes. If you are a writer, sharpen that pencil. If you are a runner, grab those nifty Brooks. If you are a singer, saaaaaang, girrrrrrrrrrrl. If you are a helper, make room to help. If you are a giver, make room to give. If you are a peacemaker, build bridges toward peace. Do what makes you so uniquely YOU! You do you, girl. No one else can. You’ll never regret doing what you love. Unless it’s illegal. Yah, that would be bad. Go ahead and regret that.
